HUD Section 232
Healthcare Queue
Gets Some Relief
By Doug Solether,

It wasn't long ago
that the loan
process for the
popular
HUD Section
232 Lean healthcare
(assisted living,
skilled nursing,
hospital) program
was suffering from
what can only be
referred to as a
true 'bottleneck.'
HUD's Office of
Healthcare Programs
(OHP) created a
single queue to to
streamline the loan
approval process.
Unfortunately, the
high demand for the
Section 232 program
resulted in a
significant
bottleneck, not the
efficiencies
anticipated by OHP.
In an effort to
speed up the loan
process, OHP created
additional queues
for loans that can
be processed more
quickly and
efficiently, such as
lower-risk loans and
the refinancing of
existing HUD insured
loans.
As demand has
remained high for
the Section 232
program, HUD has
hired both internal
underwriters and
processors as well
as retained an
outside contractor
keep loans moving
through the queues
in a timely manner.
HUD's response to
the bottleneck has
resulted in
significant
improvements to the
Section 232 program
ensuring a long-term
positive impact on
the program and will
keep it as the
go-to-source for
healthcare financing
among operators. |
